We'll be meeting on Saturdays from 1pm to 3pm to build a portable End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) wire antenna for the HF Amateur Radio bands. In the next month or two we'll also be planning a hiking trip to a local mountain top where we can operate battery-powered radios at high elevation and test our portable antenna performance. (More details to come.) We'll compare different antennas, and if the conditions are good we should be able to make contacts all over the world.
We'll meet at the gate on Junipero Serra across from Frenchman's road around 12:45pm and carpool up around 1pm. If you prefer to hike up, you can also use the pedestrian entrance on Junipero Serra and Stanford Ave and meet us at the shack. See the map below.

Talk Summary:
What do you get when you utilize blockchain Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and cryptocurrency to build one of the fastest-growing wireless networks?
How would you build a global IoT wireless network in a matter of years, not decades, and at a fraction of the cost of traditional mobile carriers who might spend billions to buy spectrum, build cell towers, and gain subscribers?
The answer is the Decentralized Wireless (DeWi) movement which is growing at breakneck speeds.
At the center of this movement is the Helium blockchain, which is powered by the LoRaWAN wireless protocol that has seen tremendous growth in IoT applications.
The Helium DeWi model has amassed legions of crypto mining fans, and its “hotspot miners” have been deployed worldwide.
We’ll explore the benefits of a DeWi network and the multitude of Helium IoT applications used in small business to big city projects.

W6YX was active in the 2021 ARRL EME contest. Three stations were used, the 10 GHz with its 15’ cassegrain dish, the 1296 MHz 26’ prime focus dish, and the 144 MHz yagi station. The 432 station is under construction and we did not activate 2304 with the 26’ dish. The contest spans 3 weekends, in Oct, Nov and Dec.
