Special Rules of Order

(Adopted by majority vote without notice, and can be amended or rescinded in the same manner at any time [Sturgis, 4th ed., pp. 209-210].)

  1. Reaching decisions. All propositions brought before the club are to be discussed informally and a consensus reached by an aye/nay voice vote of the Full and Associate members. Any member can call for a rising vote of the Full members if there appears to be significant contention on the issue. The decision of the Full members is the final decision of the club.

Standing Rules

(Adopted by majority vote without notice, and can be amended or rescinded in the same manner at any time [Sturgis, 4th ed., pp. 209-210].)

  1. Meeting day and time. The regular meetings of the club are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
  2. Dues. The annual dues are free for Stanford students and $95 suggested ($50 required) for all others, payable at the first meeting of the academic year. Domestic partnerships receive a $10 discount when joining together.
  3. Shack driveway cable. The cable at the entrance to the shack driveway at Site 530 shall be kept in place at all times, with no exceptions.
  4. Borrowing club equipment. All individuals borrowing club equipment must post notice to both the club email list and the equipment sign-out sheet at Site 530.
  5. Shack key policy.

    Any member of the Stanford community (student, faculty, staff, alumni and their immediate families) in good standing with the club will receive a key to the station and foothills if:

    1. they have attended at least 3 club meetings (not necessarily consecutive),
    2. they are currently paid up on dues, and
    3. they pay a $35 refundable deposit.

    Individuals not in the Stanford community but with willingness and ability to contribute to the club and its activities and in good standing with the club may receive keys if:

    1. they have attended at least 6 club meetings (not necessarily consecutive),
    2. they and their sponsor are currently paid up on dues, and
    3. they pay a $100 refundable deposit.

    Moreover, if membership lapses because dues are not timely paid, both key and keycard must be returned no later than six months or deposit is claimed to cover costs of reprogramming and new key. Also, for individuals not in the Stanford community, the sponsor of individual must also continue to be a dues paying member, or the individual is subject to the same policy of revocation stated above.

    Finally, keys can be recalled at any time for any reason at the discretion of any club executive, the station engineer, or the person currently handling distribution of keys.
